Founder’s Note

Marine Solver began as a very practical ambition: to bridge two worlds that rarely connect properly in shipping - rigorous optimisation models and real commercial decision-making.

I’m Natalia Liashenko, Ph.D. (Economics). Before founding Marine Solver, I worked in both academic research and industry, including within a large maritime digital platform (Shipnext). That dual perspective shaped a persistent question: why do powerful models often remain disconnected from the way brokers, operators and owners actually work - with incomplete data, shifting market terms, operational constraints and constant change?

I wanted to build a tool that doesn’t simplify reality to fit a model - but adapts the model to reality. A platform where a specialist stays in control: defining assumptions, priorities and constraints, testing scenarios, and making decisions that remain traceable and explainable.

Marine Solver is the result of that journey - a decision-support workshop where complex economics and mathematics become an intuitive, scenario-based process for everyday chartering and fleet planning.

Fleet operations are shaped by complexity, uncertainty and constantly changing conditions. Cargo availability shifts, terms evolve, constraints emerge unexpectedly, and decisions often need to be revisited mid-process. What I consistently observed was a growing gap between the amount of available data and the quality of commercial decisions being made. Data existed, models existed - but there was no unified framework that could connect them into a clear, scenario-driven decision process reflecting how the market actually behaves.

I dreamed of creating something different - a tool that would make complex decisions easier without oversimplifying reality. A platform where a broker, operator, shipowner, disponent owner, vessel manager or chartering desk can adjust key inputs (cargo pools, laycans, fuel assumptions, constraints) and immediately see how scenarios evolve - with costs, compliance exposure and operational feasibility considered together. This vision turned into Marine Solver: a practical commercial optimization engine built to support clarity, consistency, and strategic advantage.

Thank you for visiting. I hope Marine Solver helps you - as it helped me - see the entire voyage chain more clearly, and make decisions with confidence in an increasingly complex and regulated market.

The Philosophy Behind the Solver

Voyage Chain Thinking

We moved beyond "point-to-point" planning. Marine Solver optimizes the entire voyage chain, calculating how current cargo choices influence future fleet positioning and long-term profitability.

Transparent Control

No "Black Box" algorithms. We believe optimization is a tool for experts, not a replacement. Users define parameters and priorities, while the engine handles the mathematical complexity.

Integrated Compliance

Regulatory exposure (EU ETS) and environmental targets (IMO CII) are integrated directly into the commercial logic. Compliance is no longer a separate report—it's part of the voyage result.
